Axbacen is a part of Oxfordshire Scout Network covering the Southwest of Oxfordshire from Shrivenham to Hendred (King Alfred District). Here you’ll be able to sign up to upcoming events, see photos from previous events and chat with other Network members from across the Area. You’ll also be able to link up with your local Network groups around Oxfordshire.
We decided to try and find a name related to the local area when we set up the unit. We started to look in to Anglo-Saxon words and found ‘Axbacen’ which means to bake in ashes. There is a strong link to King Alfred in the local area with him being born in Wantage and he was well known for burning cakes in the ashes of a fire, hence the name! Our logo is also tribute to this – a burning muffin!
